It's giving season! While supporting our communities is something we do year-round at Apex, this time of year is a perfect moment to reflect on our initiatives and spread a little extra love.

At Apex, our vision is to "positively impact the landscape of the cities and towns where we work." That impact goes beyond the buildings we help create - it extends to the volunteer work and giving initiatives we participate in. By investing our time and resources into our communities, we're living that vision and helping make the places we call home even better.

Here are a few of the giving initiatives that we are proud to support:

Crossroads Street Tree Initiative

Once or twice a year, our KC Crew gets together to help plant trees around our neighborhood. The Crossroads Street Tree Initiative is working to improve our urban tree canopy and has planted over 284 trees so far. These trees play a critical role in reducing heat island effects, managing stormwater, and supporting economic vitality in dense neighborhoods.

Volunteers of America

Our Denver team is looking forward to putting their elf hats on this December to help wrap gifts with Volunteers of America.

Habitat for Humanity

Once a year, our engineers trade their blueprints for hammers and help build homes with Habitat for Humanity! This one is not only lots of fun and hard work, but also gives our engineers insight into how design translates into construction.

Local Homeless Shelters

With offices in Downtown Lawrence, Kansas City, and Denver, we have found ways to give back to our local homeless shelters over the years. Our contributions have included food drives, monetary donations, and other forms of support.

Local Schools

We love to give back to local schools and inspire the next generation of engineers. For K-12 students, we've visited classrooms, hosted students at our offices, attended exploratory career fairs, and served as judges for STEM-focused events. For higher education, we've served as guest lecturers, reviewed resumes, conducted mock interviews, and hosted capstone presentations at our office.

Pro Bono and Discounted Structural Design Services

Over the years, we've provided pro bono or heavily discounted structural design services to organizations in need. In the past five years, this has included KU School of Architecture & Design Dirt Works Studio Design-Build projects, Habitat for Humanity homes and townhomes, and design for multiple single-family homes, the sales of which have supported a variety of charitable organizations.

While this is just a high-level glimpse of the giving initiatives we participate in, we also offer 8 hours a year of paid volunteer time off (VTO) and we're proud of the variety of organizations our employees support individually.

At Apex, our work extends beyond buildings, and we understand that it's also about strengthening the communities around them. Whether it's planting trees, supporting schools, or volunteering in our neighborhoods, every effort helps make the places we live and work stronger, more vibrant, and more connected.
