Cross Cabin

1,000 square foot | New Construction

This trailblazing, two-bedroom, two-bath home is built entirely from plant-based, carbon-negative materials. Apex worked closely with our client on the structural diagram to maximize the structural efficiency of cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels which included 5.5" five-ply CLT floor panels and 3.5" three-ply CLT roof panels that span eighteen feet on top of a steel wide flange and helical pile foundation and includes dramatic cantilevers of the roof and floor panels.

For this large home with walkout basement, Apex provided both design and inspection services.  Working closely with the client, we maintained their design intent even when site conditions required changes to allow for a piered foundation system.

Sprawling Custom

6,000+ square foot | New Construction

In addition to large room and vaulted ceilings, other unique design elements included a circular steel beam supporting turret framing and a 12’ tall concrete retaining wall supporting the patio terrace.

Two Story Addition

This two-story addition to a structure built in the early 1900s featured an expansive all of windows and timbers.  We worked closely with the client to reinforce the structure while maintaining their vision for the look and feel of the new space.

Apex Engineers provided special inspection services and design for the replacement of an existing windscreen for this, the highest residence in the Kansas City metro.
