Apex Engineers Announces New Leadership Promotions

Kansas City, MO - Jan. 11, 2024 - Apex Engineers, Inc. announces the promotion of seven engineers to key leadership positions including Bryce Crady as Principal & CEO; Michael Brunin as Principal; Jason Gibson, Logan Chamberlin and Matthew Umberger as Senior Associates; and Matthew Conley and Aaron Kilgore as Associates.


Apex acknowledges the contributions these key leaders have made to the firm through their dedication to quality structural engineering, mentorship, exceptional service to clients and commitment to Apex's mission of delivering buildable, logical and effective structural solutions.


Bryce Crady, PE, one of Apex's founding principals, will now serve as Apex's first CEO. Since co-founding Apex at the age of 24, Crady has been instrumental in the success of Apex over the past twenty years. Crady has overseen Apex grow from a team of three to a team of 50 and the opening of Apex's headquarters in Kansas City, MO and offices in Lawrence, KS and Denver, CO. With more than 20 years of experience in structural engineering, Crady now leads all commercial projects coming through the Kansas City office and remains hands-on in the design work of projects.


Michael Brunin, PE is the newest of five principals at Apex. One of Apex's first interns, Brunin started full-time in 2005 and has taken on a variety of residential and commercial projects throughout his career at Apex. In 2015, Brunin helped open the Lawrence, KS office and now serves as the principal-in-charge there, while also managing residential projects in both Kansas City and Lawrence. Additionally, Brunin helps guide the training of interns and new hires and serves on the City of Lawrence Building Code Board of Appeals.


Jason Gibson, PE becomes a Senior Associate. Also beginning his career at Apex as an intern, he has now been at Apex for more than 17 years. Gibson leads residential project teams in the Kansas City office and continues to maintain strong relations with some of Apex's longest-standing clients. Specializing in custom-built homes with unique design elements, small and large-scale residential remodels and managing some of Apex's large volume home builders; he has designed countless homes across the Midwest.


Logan Chamberlin, PE has been named a Senior Associate. After beginning his career at Apex as an intern, and officially coming on full-time in 2012, Chamberlin now leads many of the commercial projects in the Kansas City office. Well-versed in the collaborative design process, Chamberlin is excellent at resolving construction problems in the field. Specializing in multi-story wood-framed construction, his recent projects include the ABF Freight Facility in Olathe, KS, and both the upcoming Pascua Yaqui 9 in Tucson, AZ and The Helm in Kansas City, KS apartment complexes.


Matthew Umberger, PE & SE is now a Senior Associate. Beginning his career at Apex in 2014, Umberger played a key role in opening the Denver office and was among the first three team members. Umberger has a wide variety of experience designing complex residential and commercial projects across the country. Passionate about leveraging technology and artificial intelligence to create standard design tools, unique software solutions and enhance productivity and workflow across the organization, Umberger also serves as the Director of Research and Development activities at Apex.


Matthew Conley, PE has been promoted to Associate. After beginning his career at Apex in 2016 as a Design Engineer, Conley manages most commercial projects in the Denver office. His commitment to maintaining the integrity of each client's vision is exemplified through consistent communication and coordination. Conley's recent Denver structural design work includes a 900-seat auditorium at the Mapleton Fine Arts Building, a 4-story, 24-unit condo building at 1208 Quitman and the International School of Denver Middle School.


Aaron Kilgore, PE transitions into the role of Associate, bringing more than a decade of design experience with a diverse range of structural materials, enhancing his ability to serve a wide variety of construction types. His notable projects include design for the Kansas City Current Training Facility and Academy Building in Riverside, MO and Beacon Hill apartments in Kansas City, MO and the cold-form steel design for the KC Pet Project at the Kansas City Campus for Animal Care in Kansas City, MO.
