What sparked your interest in structural engineering?
I became interested in civil engineering because my family has a construction background, so I am naturally interested too. I chose structural because I like technical stuff and "structure" to how things get done.
What are you most looking forward to about your internship this summer?
I am looking forward to getting to work on designing houses.

When I am not at Apex, I will be climbing at ROKC, completing my summer classes, playing games with friends, or helping my family on projects.
What's your favorite season?
My favorite season is early fall. I like fall because the temperature cools down from a hot summer so most outdoor activities don't feel hot. The trees are also really colorful which looks cool.
Dream vacation?
My dream vacation would be to visit all of the national parks in America.
Fun fact?
The typical person works 80,000 hours throughout their career. (50 weeks/year 40 hours/week * 40 years = 80,000)

She is interning at our Kansas City office working on residential projects and in the field.
What sparked your interest in structural engineering?
I grew up with a family-owned residential construction company and always had an interest in the design and development aspects of construction. What made me decide to pursue engineering was helping to problem solve on the new house my parents built my junior year of high school.

I really don't have a 'dream vacation,' I just want to get out and travel to new places as much as possible.

Logan Cole
Logan graduated from Colorado School of Mines in December 2023 with a degree in civil engineering. He is currently pursuing a master's in civil engineering with a structural engineering emphasis. He is planning on finishing that degree in December.
He is interning at our Denver office working on commercial projects.
What sparked your interest in structural engineering?
I've always been interested in Civil Engineering, even back when I was a kid, but over the past few years I became a lot more interested in how structures work. I became fascinated with the many different components that go into a structure, and this led me to want to be able to help design them. Plus, being able to help design something and then see it actually get built feels very rewarding.
What are you most looking forward to about your internship this summer?
I am most looking forward to being able to help design buildings and getting more hands-on experience in structural engineering.
When you're not at Apex, what will you be doing this summer?
Hopefully hiking more, or in general getting outdoors and seeing more of what Colorado has to offer.
What's your favorite season?
Going to have to say summer here, though fall is a close second.
Dream vacation?
I've always wanted to visit Patagonia in South America.

I am most looking forward to expanding my knowledge and experience in both residential and commercial work.
When you're not at Apex, what will you be doing this summer?

I am most looking forward to gaining a structural engineering experience and learning from other engineers about the profession.
When you're not at Apex, what will you be doing this summer?
Outside of Apex, I plan on being outdoors as much as possible. I plan to go camping and hiking in the mountains and play as much golf as possible. I will also go fishing and go to the beach whenever I travel home to San Diego for vacation.
What's your favorite season?
My favorite season is winter because I love the snow. Being from San Diego I never got to see it snow until I got to college and now, I enjoy it a lot.
Dream vacation?
My dream vacation is to go fishing in Hawaii or Alaska. Hawaii and Alaska are some of the few states I haven't been to and I've always wanted to travel there. I also enjoy fishing and I think it would be interesting to get to fish in those places.
