The floating staircase at this house in Lee's Summit, Missouri required special structural design.

As featured in KC Home Design magazine, much of the lumber used to construct this Lee’s Summit home was rough timber from a forest fire. In addition, the home features an especially open design as well as a floating staircase. Due to the many unique features, nearly every aspect of the house required special structural design. For example, Apex designed a two-channel configuration with 1-inch diameter bolts and washers to support the floating staircase – every piece of steel for this staircase had to be specially fabricated!
